So this affects all UK cable customers (ntl/blueyonder/telewest)? Stupid Sky trying to be all powerful again (I still haven't forgiven them for buying Lost and refusing to show it on even Sky Three), as usual I blame the twat that is Rupert Murdoch. I share your disappointment Virgin Media customers ...

Yeh, Virgin Media now operates all them.
What's the point of having cable now then? I can get the channels I want on Freeview now, I only used cable to watch Sky channels. Does this affect Telewest broadband?
I believe that Telewest broadband has already rebranded to Virgin Media Broadband ...
I can get most of what I want on Freeview too, shame that Sky are going to be withdrawing Sky News, Sky Sports News and Sky Three from it soon though
While reading this page:

This specific row has no impact on the seven million viewers who currently access Sky's basic channels through Freeview.
But Sky said last month it planned to withdraw its channels from Freeview viewers - offering them instead on a terrestrial pay-TV service.
Excuse me for my ignorance but what is this "Freeview" absorbation mentioned?

I find it funny that Virgin changed the name of "Sky News" to "Old Sky Snooze"

Its a one of payment to get certain digital channels, more information can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeview.
Yeh, basically it is digital broadcasting (i.e. using a digital signal not analogue) that can be picked up using a normal aerial. All you need is to buy a digital "box" (the one off payment that Chris mentioned) and then that interprets the digital signal (most new TVs have it built in though). It is not a subscription service and all the channels (which there are quite a lot of) are free. Eventually it is planned to turn off the analogue transmission in the UK so Freeview is really just the better free replacement for when that happens.
I got a myspace add about this
Sky seem to be pretty happy that virgin media customers wont be able to see lost
