Apple has released a public beta of Safari for Windows.

Not really liking the GUI at the minute, however I suppose its meant to reflect the company's design:

I saw this all over my RSS feeds this morning, haven't downloaded it yet.
I've got mixed thoughts about this, Apple are obviously aiming for the iPod and iTunes market and maybe finally realising "if you can't beat them, join them" but it is just something else to try and persuade people to stick to Macs and it is just another browser which, no matter how much they try to talk it up on their website, just has the same features as all the other browsers. There is not enough room in the market for Safari on Windows.
To be honest its shit

. Shouldn't be a public BETA just yet needs some bug crunching.
Apple's new site is amazing though

!
I like the design, but the software is behind on Windows

It would seem they made it for windows so people on windows can start developing websites for the iPhone which is coming up pretty soon. As well, the speeds on it are really good (faster than base firefox, and base IE). Sure, it has a few problems, and the design doesn't match, but that's normal. The former is because it's beta, which is exactly why it's out as public. It was put to the public so web developers can help iron on the bugs. The latter is also normal, you have to remember that this is an Apple product. Apple make their products grey. To be perfectly honest, it looks nicer on Windows than on Mac, and it's a very smooth design. I'm sure there will be skins to change to looks as well.
I'm not an Apple fan-boy (I don't even own a Mac) but I wish I could have easier access to Apple products like this, because they really are a good company. It's just all the Windows propaganda that kills Apple.

But then, wouldn't you say Microsoft is behind by not having Internet Explorer for Macs?

Have you not seen the Mac and PC ads!? When was the last time MS did anything like that ...

You can still get IE5 for Macs

You hit a point, however, windows is
the most used operating system, and thus people will usually dislike anything that's different.

I'm not sure myself if that's a good idea

I am currently running Safari 3 beta on my Mac. It runs quite speedy and there don't seem to be any bugs at all. I had only had one crash and that is expected from pretty much any program.
Once the bugs are ironed out, you get to see that it really is an amazing browser. If you tried it on a Mac you would even get to try out some of the great plugins people write, like XHTML Tidy and Pith Helmet (ad-blocking).
It is just great to see them releasing it on Windows so now people can make sure that not only their iPhone apps work but their websites too.
I wish I could use the exact same design on Firefox, but not some crappy rip-off

.
Design of Apple programs on Windows =
