Guide: Patching Windows Live Messenger (visually)
Visually patching Windows Live Messenger is great to remove all those unwanted ads* and buttons that you just find annoying and in the way, or to add some more!
There are two main programs that can automatically do this for you: Mess Patch and A-Patch. This is a short guide to help you decide which to use and what you can use them for. Both Mess Patch and A-Patch support the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. - Mess Patch: 8.1.0178 (Generation 5) - A-Patch: 1.3.0 RC1 (build 54) out-of-date info, should be updated soon Reviews and feature lists may appear soon.
Instructions: > Make sure you are patching an original unmodified version Windows Live Messenger (i.e. you have no skins or other patches etc installed/used). > Open the program of your choice and follow each easy-to-use step. > If you want to patch Windows Live Messenger again don't forget to restore your backup within the patching program before you do so. Alternatively you can just open the Windows Live Messenger setup or click 'Change' under the Windows Live Messenger entry in 'Add/Remove Programs' and in the window that comes up for either click the 'Repair' button. After it has 'repaired' (reinstalled) you now have an unmodified version of Windows Live Messenger and can begin patching again. > If you want to remove the changes you made to Windows Live Messenger and restore Messenger back to its original appearance then just open the Windows Live Messenger setup or click 'Change' under the Windows Live Messenger entry in 'Add/Remove Programs' and in the window that comes up for either click the 'Repair' button. After it has 'repaired' (reinstalled) you now have an original, unmodified version of Windows Live Messenger. * Note: Patching Windows Live Messenger violates and infringes Microsoft's terms of use and service and is not encouraged. Downloading, installing and using any of the software featured here is your own choice and we cannot be held responsible in any way. Messenger is free software and the advertisments in it are its main source of revenue (which means that you do not have to pay for it). Keep the ads to keep it free. |

RE: Guide: Patching Windows Live Messenger (visually)
I've just realised that skinning is also classed as visually patching Messenger, so if you want to skin (change the theme) of your copy of Windows Live Messenger check out absorbation's guide to current WLM skins at the main site: http://www.msgstuff.com/liveskins/
